New Victorian Broiler Code

Victoria has a new broiler code. The long awaited Broiler Code was unveiled in October 2009.

NPC made two submissions to the Review Committee during the process and members attended the consultation workshops conducted by the Review team.

The new code incorporates several improvements and greater clarity than the earlier version. Although the Code has clarified several of the issues that were cause for concern by the industry, NPC is aware that there will still be areas of uncertainty for local government authorities. Fertiliser Demand is Heating Up

Biochar-Energy Systems Pty Ltd’s (BES’s) unique poultry litter based biochar product, as a substitute for high-analysis fertiliser, was demonstrated at the Elmore field days in October 2009.

Biochar is essentially charcoal, or the burnt remains of organic matter. Biochar-Energy Systems' (BES) Russell Burnett said "We have a facility in East Bendigo, where the Biochar is produced and we use a variety of materials, such as poultry litter, straw and municipal green waste," Russell said.
